Boise man dead after drowning in Payette River, chief deputy coroner says

A man died Wednesday afternoon after drowning in the Payette River off of County Highway 17, Chief Deputy Coroner for Boise County Mike Johnson told the Idaho Statesman.

Jeffery Murdock, 34, of Boise, drowned in the river at around 2:30 p.m., Johnson said. Murdock’s reasons for being out in the water are still unclear.

Witnesses were on scene when the drowning occurred, Johnson said. There was no evidence of foul-play.

“(It’s) unclear what he was doing out in the water or if he fell in,” Johnson said.

The investigation is ongoing.
