Caldwell Police officer’s SUV hit in two-car crash on Sunday, officer’s name not released

A Caldwell police officer was involved in a two-car crash Sunday evening while driving south on College Avenue.

The officer was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, around 4:42 p.m., when another vehicle driven by Margaret Blake, 72, of Caldwell, collided with him. She was eastbound on Maple Street in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass and they crashed at the intersection, according to Idaho State Police.

ISP did not name the officer involved in the crash, nor did it identify which driver was at fault. It’s unclear if the officer was on-duty, nor is it clear if he was driving a city-owned vehicle. ISP said they leave the decision on releasing an officer’s name to the agency involved. The Idaho Statesman has been unable to contact Caldwell PD about it on Monday.

Blake was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by ground ambulance and the Caldwell police officer was treated and released at a local hospital. On Monday morning, Blake was listed as being in stable condition, according to a hospital spokesman.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt.

The intersection of Maple Street and College Avenue was blocked for approximately one hour and 40 minutes.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
