Finding a job in Boise where you earn a living wage with decent benefits can be an overwhelming experience. With the state’s minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, Idaho was ranked one of the worst states in the nation for workers and worker protections.

However, there are some options for job hunters in the Boise area. Some positions that pay a starting salary between $21 and $26 hourly with benefits that include healthcare and paid time off.

The City of Boise is hiring for fourteen full-time job openings, some of which offer a salary above Idaho’s minimum to live comfortably in the city, according to SmartAsset.com. Here are five of those full-time jobs with the city that offer benefits including healthcare, paid time off and a 401(k). The deadline to apply to most of these jobs are within the coming week.

Industrial Mechanic - PW

Posted salary: $21.41 - $25.42 hourly

Department: Public works

Deadline: Nov. 5, 12 p.m.

This position will perform skilled maintenance on various mechanical systems in advanced wastewater treatment facilities and other public works utilities. The Industrial Mechanic will also install, operate, repair and troubleshoot industrial equipment. They will also operate light to heavy machinery and tools, forklifts and overhead cranes.

Food and Beverage Chef

Posted salary: $21.41 - $25.42 hourly

Department: Parks and Recreation

Deadline: Nov. 12, 12 p.m.

This position will ensure that a high level of customer service is maintained with sales, service and cooking staff. The Food and Beverage Chef also manages all food and beverage purchases, including the sales records. They will also place orders with vendors and monitor the expenses. In addition to developing menus for events they will ensure sanitation, alcohol serving and all food-related regulations are followed.

Utilities Technician IV

Posted salary: $26.38- $28.02 hourly

Department: Public Works

Deadline: Nov. 12, 12 p.m.

This position reviews and directs daily work assignments performed by peers for completeness and accuracy. The Utilities Technician IV inspects and maintains underground assets in the wastewater collection system. They will also operate and maintain closed circuit televising system (CCTV) equipment used in inspecting underground sewer pipes and while using sewer line cleaning equipment.

Compensation Specialist

Posted salary: $26.38- $31.32 hourly

Department: Human Resources

Deadline: Nov. 6, 12 p.m.

The Compensation Specialist supports daily administration of compensation and classification plans. They will conduct and coordinate the review, research and approval of requests to process employee and position changes. This position will monitor and address routine inquiries, provide information and assistance to employees and managers regarding compensation policies and procedures.

Sewer Lift Station Mechanic/Operator

Posted salary: $26.38- $31.35 hourly

Department: Public Works

Deadline: Nov. 11, 12 p.m.

The Sewer Lift Station Mechanic/Operator performs journey-level installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial process instruments and control devices according to regulatory codes, manufacturer’s instructions and site regulations. They will also plan and coordinate maintenance duties based on assigned priority and potential impact to facility operations. This position will conduct verification and calibration processes on multiple measuring devices including safety equipment, to ensure complete accuracy and viability.
