Another downtown Boise bar has closed. This one was a ‘sanctuary, and a home’

A Boise bar known for craft cocktails has shuttered after nearly a decade.

It was the second whiskey-drinkers’ destination to go dark downtown within a span of a month.

The Gas Lantern Drinking Company, 701 W. Fulton St., said goodbye after a final night on May 30, according to its social media pages. It followed the early May demise of Whiskey Bar, 509 Main St., in the 6th and Main streets bar district.

No reason was provided for either closure.

The Gas Lantern opened at the intersection with Capitol Boulevard in 2017. Whiskey Bar opened in 2014.

“The Gas Lantern has been a place of gathering, celebration, sanctuary, and a home,” the bar posted. “We are so thankful for all of you who have supported us along the way. Whether you have been around since the start or discovered us last week, you are a part of our journey.”

The Smoke & Thyme food trailer is still parked outside in the alley. It continues to serve customers next door at White Dog Brewing, 705 W. Fulton St.
