This chain’s sandwiches are ‘fantastic’ — and free this week in Meridian, Nampa

Racking up enthusiastic reviews, Dave’s Hot Chicken has made a searing entry into the Boise market.

The fast-growing chain has yet to open a restaurant in the actual City of Trees. But its Meridian store, launched in 2022 at 3450 N. Eagle Road, rates 4.7 out of 5 stars from a whopping 2,407 Google reviews. Its Nampa location, which debuted two years later at 16365 N. Marketplace Blvd., pulls a near-perfect 4.9 stars from 1,239 reviews.

These Nashville hot chicken-style sandwiches are “fantastic,” one reviewer wrote.

Best of all? They’re free this week. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, all 340-plus Dave’s Hot Chicken locations will hand over a sandwich — aka a slider — to anyone who shows up and scans the Dave’s app. No purchase is required. All chicken tenders are spiced-to-order, with seven levels of heat. Normally, a single slider costs $6.99.

Why give away sandwiches for a day? To spread the Dave’s app to more phones, for one thing. But this also is the third year Dave’s has done the marketing blitz as a nod to rapper Drake’s birthday. The Billboard Artist of the Year was a relatively early investor in the California-based chain. (And, yes, Drake fans, Dave’s realizes that Drake’s birthday actually is on Friday. The freebie promotion is still Thursday.)

To claim your free slider, you must show up in person. It won’t be available through online ordering or delivery.

But as Dave’s Hot Chicken fans will tell you, it’s worth the effort.

“Each year, millions of fans visit us and post on social media about how Dave’s Hot Chicken blows their mind,” Dave’s CEO Bill Phelps said in a prepared statement. “We want to continue this tradition of taking care of our fans while celebrating our most famous investor, Drake. We hope everyone both at home and abroad will come out on Oct. 23 for a slider on us.”

It’s hard to beat a free slider in celebration of rapper Drake’s birthday.
