Words & Deeds

New to Idaho, this drive-thru coffee chain likes to play dirty. Ready, Meridian?

Drive-thru coffee competition is about to get dirtier in the Treasure Valley.

And arguably a bit sillier-sounding.

Colorado-based chain Ziggi’s Coffee is building a store at 4801 S. Tavistock Ave. in Meridian. If you drive by the construction site, you’ll notice that something’s brewing just east of the intersection of Eagle and Amity roads.

This is a jolt of exciting news for Boise-area caffeine fiends. Not to mention fans of Swig and Fiiz Drinks. Because Ziggi’s doesn’t just do coffee. It also sells sugar-saturated dirty sodas.

A colorful banner promises Ziggi’s is coming soon. Attempts to reach a company spokesperson were not immediately fruitful. But Meridian city records illuminate the plan: an 825-square-foot drive-thru with a partially covered outdoor patio.

A coffee chain branching outside the java realm is not exactly earth-shattering. Dutch Bros makes sparkling sodas and energy drinks. Black Rock Coffee Bar offers “Fuel” energy concoctions.

But as a company, Ziggi’s is a mover and shaker. New to Idaho, the chain was rated No. 1 in the most recent USA Today 10Best readers’ choice awards for “Best Drive-Thru Coffee.”

In addition to drinks, Ziggi’s menu offers “eats and treats,” too. That’s an Everything Bagel Breakfast Sandwich displayed on the banner at the Meridian property. (Mmm, sausage, egg and gouda.) Just be aware: “Selection may vary by location,” Ziggi’s warns on its website. So who knows exactly which food options Idaho’s drive-thru will offer.

Here’s more from a Ziggi’s press release this summer about the opening of another store:

“Founded in 2004 — and franchised since 2016 — Ziggi’s Coffee opened its first location in Longmont, Colorado, where it became known for its innovative food and beverage menu and dedication to the communities it serves.

“... With a lineup that includes signature coffees, energy drinks, smoothies and the recent addition of dirty sodas, the brand continues to redefine beverage innovation. Ziggi’s Coffee currently has more than 100 locations open across 22 states, and over 200 locations in various stages of development.”

Speaking of development? Ziggi’s develops some off-the-wall drinks.

There’s the limited-time-only Mike’s Hot Honey Latte, which “combines smooth espresso with buttery pecan flavor, infused with Mike’s Hot Honey flavor and finished with a drizzle of the iconic hot honey for the ultimate sweet-meets-heat experience. Whether you enjoy it hot, iced or blended, this drink offers an unforgettable take on fall flavor.”

Feelin’ a dirty soda instead? Behold the OMG! (Oh My Gourd!): “Pepsi mixed with pumpkin, vanilla creamer and a drizzle of pumpkin flavor.”

Ziggi’s in Meridian doesn’t appear like it will open by fall, or even winter; 2026 seems more likely.

In the meantime, oh my gourd! Can some of the other Idaho coffee drive-thrus step up their bizarro sugar-bomb drink games?

“Some flavors sound a little unexpected ... until you try them,” Ziggi’s wrote on social media recently. “Our OMG! Dirty Soda and Mike’s Hot Honey Latte are proof that sometimes bold pairings make magic.”
