A ‘bright spot’ in downtown Emmett, this coffee shop and event center has closed

A local coffee shop and event center that revived an historic Emmett building has poured its last cup.

The Brunswick, 124 W. Main St., has closed. A destination for Caffeina coffee and Gaston’s Bakery goodies, it also was an event center used for weddings and other celebrations. Faded lettering on the old brick building downtown still advertises the “Brunswick Cigar Store,” also offering “candy, soft drinks, fruit.”

The Brunswick’s latest incarnation was launched in 2023, according to KIVI Channel 6. Now that it has shuttered, the coffee equipment and other furnishings are being sold by Business Liquidation Auction.

The closure was announced on Facebook, along with news that business founder Heidi Smith plans to launch another event space on family property in Garden Valley.

Nearly two dozen comments piled up underneath the post.

“We will miss you! You were such a bright spot on Main Street,” wrote one.

“I am so sad to lose The Brunswick from Emmett,” commented another. “It was such a magic spot to enjoy without going over the hill. Good luck.”

“Best wishes in your new adventures,” added one more. “We will miss you.”
