Words & Deeds

This icon unleashed one of history’s bestselling live albums. Ready for a Boise concert?

It would be entirely inappropriate to describe Peter Frampton as a one-hit wonder, since he’s famous for multiple rock-radio classics.

A one-album wonder, though? Perhaps.

But what an album.

Few live records are more iconic than “Frampton Comes Alive!,” which roared up the charts in 1976 and instantly transformed the British singer-guitarist into a household name. The double-live classic was powered by hits “Show Me the Way” (which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100), “Baby, I Love Your Way” (No. 12) and “Do You Feel Like We Do” (No. 10).

Idahoans will sing along — and groove to Frampton’s celebrated talk-box skills — when he headlines Idaho Central Arena in downtown Boise on Tuesday, June 17. Tickets become available to the general public starting at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster for $49.50 to $199.50 (front row).

A founding member of Humble Pie, Frampton went on to enjoy a lengthy solo career. “Frampton Comes Alive” wasn’t just his breakthrough — it was, by light years, his largest commercial success. One of the bestselling live albums of all time, it’s moved nearly 18 million copies worldwide.

Frampton’s quick follow-up in 1977, “I’m in You,” has sold more than a million copies. Its title track — a huge hit — reached No. 2. But that’s the closest he got to tasting massive sales success again.

Now 74, Frampton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. A few years ago, the prospect of seeing him perform live felt improbable. In 2019, Frampton disclosed that he’d been diagnosed with inclusion body myositis, a degenerative muscle disease.

But he soon returned to the road. The trek coming to Boise is called Frampton’s “Let’s Do It Again!” Tour.
