After rocking Boise, this band will headline Madison Square Garden. It sold out Red Rocks
When it comes to the jam band scene, no group has soared in recent years quite like Goose.
In 2023, the Connecticut quintet played a sold-out Boise show at the Knitting Factory Concert House.
It’s time to take the next Idaho step.
Goose will headline an outdoor concert Sunday, June 1, at the Idaho Botanical Garden’s 4,000-capacity Outlaw Field.
Tickets become available to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday for $49.50 at Ticketmaster. Garden members can buy them for $44.50 starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Goose’s concert is one of the latest announcements in what is shaping up to be a fantastic spring and summer at Outlaw Field. Other shows include Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit (May 17), Lord Huron (May 23, sold out), Khruangbin (May 29), Earth, Wind & Fire (June 17), Modest Mouse (June 29), Lake Street Dive (July 8), Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas (July 23) and Chicago (Aug. 27).
After unleashing its first album in 2016 and hitting the road, Goose finally broke through around the time COVID hit. While the world was cooped up, Goose livestreamed several concerts from a barn in 2020 — its Bingo Tour. Response was massive.
By the time Goose released its third album, “Dripfield,” in 2022, the explosion was full-on. “Dripfield” debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top New Artist Albums chart. “Goose,” entertainment website Uproxx proclaimed, “is the next great American jam band.”
Goose outdoors is a huge event for Idaho fans. The group has sold out Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado three times — including two consecutive nights in 2023. On June 28 — four weeks after Goose performs at Outlaw Field — it will headline Madison Square Garden for the first time.
It’s not just the stratospheric live grooves that make Goose special. Or the fact that Goose vocalist-guitarist Rick Mitarotonda possesses a strong singing voice in a genre not typically known for outstanding vocals.
Goose writes appealing songs; “accessible” is a term often used to describe the group’s sound. Goose is the rare jam band that actually gets radio play. Its song “Hungersite” — from the “Dripfield” album — spent more than two months in the top 10 at national AAA radio.
