Breweries come and go at this Garden City building. The newest plans to ‘cause a ruckus’
Happy Halloween, beer drinkers.
A Garden City building that’s been a brewery graveyard is back from the dead.
With the ghosts of now-defunct Haff Brewing and Bella Brewing haunting the cinderblock structure — not to mention the spirit of Loose Screw Beer Co., which now is based in Meridian — Ruckus Brewing has taken over at 4340 W. Chinden Blvd. in Garden City.
And Ruckus owners Kyle and Makenna Durham don’t appear to be spooked by the space’s revolving-door past.
“We are here to cause a ruckus in the beer industry,” the brewery brags on social media.
Ruckus plans to celebrate its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday in the tap room. An hourly giveaway is planned from noon to 6 p.m., Ruckus wrote on Facebook. Each customer will receive a raffle ticket. Additional tickets will be distributed for all drinks purchased (including wine and non-alcoholic). Prizes will range from shirts and hats to Boise Beer Buddies passes, the brewery wrote. “You must be present to win, so pull up a chair and let’s RAISE A RUCKUS!”
Just maybe not that wild of a ruckus. The brewery is family- and dog-friendly, it says.
Die-hard Boise beer aficionados know the space well. Its history began with Haff Brewing in 2014. Since then, ownerships have changed. Brands have come and gone. Loose Screw, the previous tenant, exited in 2021.
Ruckus’ Kyle Durham has enjoyed recent local success as a brewer. His Mucha Lucha Mexican-style lager was named this year’s Beer of the Year at the Western Idaho Fair. The winner was chosen by staff from longtime Boise brewery Sockeye Brewing.
A message to Kyle Durham was not immediately returned.
