This rebranded Boise brewery has a parachuting beaver in its logo. Idahoans understand
A new beer brand has parachuted into Boise with a quirky logo.
But if you’ve called Idaho home long enough, you might nod knowingly.
New Colony Beer Company unveiled itself recently at 420 N. Orchard St. It’s a rebrand of Craft Brewers of Boise, a brewery, tap room and bottle shop that changed ownership earlier this year.
A new exterior sign has been installed outside the business.
It features a parachuting beaver.
Did somebody drink too many pints before coming up with that idea? Not at all.
Parachuting beavers are part of Idaho lore.
More than 70 years ago, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game tossed beavers from airplanes in an effort to move them to remote, mountainous parts of the state. The furry critters were placed in wooden boxes attached to parachutes.
In 2015, lost film footage of the project was discovered and posted on YouTube.
As for New Colony Beer Co.?
“Through inspiration from the one-of-a-kind project done by Idaho Fish and Game in 1948, a new brand has been created,” the brewery proclaimed on social media last week.
New Colony’s plan? “We’ll have some of our on-site brewed beer, some of your local and far favorites, and plenty of beer in the cooler for you to enjoy on premises, or to-go. Simply, we’re a beer company. But don’t worry, food is in the future too.”
New Colony plans to host a “grand rebranding party” on Jan. 14, 2023.
Until then?
“If you want to learn more about some of the new stuff happening, or just get to know our story a little bit more, come on down and have a pint with us during one of our many weekly events.”
