A new dance club is set to open, Boise. Wait, dance ‘hub.’ It’ll be ‘first of its kind’
If you’re ready to go out on the town, a new dance destination coming next spring might not be for you exactly ... .
After all, it’s not a city-slicker destination. It’s called The Farm.
But if you’re interested in honing your country-dance skills — and brave enough to do it without any liquid courage — then pull on those line-dancing boots.
The Farm, an alcohol-free, all-ages dance venue and event space, is slated to open in the spring of 2023 at 5137 N. Glenwood Ave. in Garden City.
The Farm will be a dance “hub,” a media release specifies — “not a club.”
With a 2,600-square-foot dance floor and four private studios, it’s “inspired by the growth of the country dance community in the Treasure Valley. ... The Farm’s focus is to provide a safe, welcoming and community-based place for all dancers. Specifically, those who want a fun atmosphere without the traits of a bar. It will grow around the principles of growth, gathering and gaining dance skills for life.”
The Farm will be “the first of its kind in the valley,” according to an email from founders Troy DeRosier and Elise Lorcher, who own Dirt Road Dancing, an Idaho company specializing in lessons.
A $15 fundraising concert is planned Nov. 18 at Cowgirls in Kuna. (Yes, that’s a bar.) Local country-rock band Sweet Briar will perform. Naturally, there will be preshow line-dancing lessons starting at 8 p.m.
If you slide over to thefarmboise.com, you’ll find T-shirts for sale. Personalized blocks, which will “surround and showcase the dance floor” at The Farm, also are being offered for a minimum donation of $40.
“The country dance scene is exploding in the Treasure Valley,” explained the email from DeRosier and Lorcher. “Unfortunately, if you are under 21, or prefer not to go to a bar, the choices to learn and dance have been limited.”
