And then there were two.

Movie chain Regal Cinemas, which once operated four Edwards multiplexes in the Treasure Valley, has closed Regal Edwards Nampa Gateway. A sign thanking patrons is posted on the 12-screen complex at 1232 N. Galleria Drive.

“We invite you to visit Regal Edwards Nampa Spectrum or any of our other area locations,” it says.

That would be one other location. In addition to Regal Edwards Nampa Spectrum, 2001 N. Cassia St., there is only Regal Edwards Boise, 7701 W. Overland Road at the Boise Spectrum.

In other parts of Idaho, two Edwards multiplexes remain open: one in Ammon and the other in Coeur d’Alene.

A message to Regal district manager John Sass was not returned.

Headquartered in Knoxville, Regal Cinemas is owned by Cineworld, which is based in London. In September, Cineworld filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Nampa Gateway closure is Regal’s second multiplex shutdown in the Boise area since 2020. Regal Edwards Boise Downtown, 760 W. Broad St., went dark during the pandemic and never reopened. It will be reincarnated as BoDo Cinema, an upgraded, boutique theater from California-based Cinema West. That regional chain also operates Village Cinema at The Village at Meridian.

James Howard, executive director of Cinema West, said the 11-screen Boise destination is on schedule to open in 2023.
