5 things to do this weekend in Boise: Hot Tuna, cold beer, fireworks and a cherry on top
If you’re looking for entertainment in Boise, start Father’s Day weekend with a bang.
Take Pops to see the Boise Hawks, who will unleash a fireworks show Friday night after the first game of a three-day home stand.
After that, the calendar is filled with all sorts of things to do.

Hit a festival

▪ In Boise, cruise back and forth between the Juneteenth Family Function and a World Refugee Day celebration on Saturday. The Family Function will feature performers, food, vendors, music, a bounce house and more from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Julia Davis Park, 700 S. Capitol Blvd. Meanwhile, World Refugee Day — at the nearby Grove Plaza downtown — will have specialty meals from Amina’s Sambusas, Darjeeling MoMo and Tarbush Kitchen, dance and musical performances, artisan goods, and a citizenship ceremony (at 11 a.m.). The party runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events are free to enter.
▪ Also downtown, but Sunday? Check out the Father’s Day Car Show with classic, modern electric and alternative vehicles — plus DJs and raffles. It’s from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. along Jefferson Street in front of the Idaho State Capitol between 6th and 9th streets, on 8th Street between Bannock and State streets, and on Capitol Boulevard between Bannock and Jefferson streets.
Have a beer
▪ Idaho’s Wild West Brewfest, a cowboy-themed party, returns with 50 or so beers Saturday at Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. In addition to brewskies, there’s live country music, and a beard and mustache contest. It’s free to enter, all-ages, and runs from 5 to 10 p.m. at 120 S. Kimball Ave. $35 gets you a mug and 12 tasting tickets.
See fireworks (and baseball)
▪ The Boise Hawks game Friday will be fun, but it will be a blast afterward. That’s when a fireworks show will happen. The Hawks take on the Rocky Mountain Vibes at 7 p.m. The teams battle again at the same time Saturday, then at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Memorial Stadium, 5600 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City. Tickets are $9-$15 at boisehawks.com.
Go to the circus
▪ The El Korah Shrine Circus — in reality, the Las Vegas-based Jordan World Circus — will roll into the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa for six performances Friday through Sunday. Expect aerialists, jugglers and “death riders” — adrenaline-junkie dudes who ride motorcycles upside-down in a giant metal sphere. Tickets start at $10 at fordidahocenter.com.
