Still growing after 44 years, Boise’s Flying Pie ready to open 7th pizza restaurant
“Whirled famous”? Possibly.
Still growing after all these years? Definitely.
Iconic Boise chain Flying Pie Pizzaria plans to unveil a seventh location this month. The new restaurant at 398 S. Eagle Road — in a former Pizza Hut building — is slated to open the week of April 18.
“We have the green light from the city and a great team ready to amaze our new Eagle guests,” owner Florian Penalva said in an email.
Founded in 1978, Flying Pie changed ownership over the decades, along with tweaking business philosophies. Instead of sticking with an old-school, traditional pizza parlor model, Flying Pie has evolved with full-service bistros and expanded menus.
For decades, Idaho chile heads have flocked to the restaurant each summer for its seasonal habanero pies. (Be warned: The triple habanero pizza is not for amateurs.)
Flying Pie has expanded steadily in the past 10 or so years. In addition to the soon-to-open Eagle location, Flying Pie has four Boise stores, one in Meridian and one in Nampa.
