Words & Deeds

This ‘flame-throwing’ live band sold out Red Rocks this summer. It’s coming to Boise

Outlaw Field in Boise has turned up next summer’s concert temperature with a blitz of recent announcements.

The 11th one on the schedule? Looks like a scorcher.

The outdoor venue just added the Tedeschi Trucks Band on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Fronted by musical married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, the 12-member ensemble has “flame-throwing powers,” as The Hartford Courant wrote in 2017.

The Wheels of Soul tour will include two special guests: veteran roots-rock act Los Lobos and singer-keyboardist Gabe Dixon, who also is a member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, at Ticketmaster.com for $59.50 standard general admission, $54.50 Garden member, $119 suite. There’s also a presale for Garden members that starts at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Formed in 2010, the Tedeschi Trucks Band blends rock, blues and jam-band aesthetics. Tedeschi was an award-winning singer and guitarist before marrying Trucks in 2001. A former member of The Allman Brothers Band, Trucks is a mind-boggling slide-guitar wizard. He’s ranked No. 16 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists” list.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band’s debut album, “Revelator,” won a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Blues Album. The group’s 2022 tour already has sold out several shows in advance, including the second of its two nights at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

Here’s the rest of the calendar at Outlaw Field, which is located at the Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Old Penitentiary Road: Lord Huron on May 29, Ween on June 28, The Avett Brothers on July 12, Khruangbin on July 13, Rainbow Kitten Surprise on July 15, Whiskey Myers, Shane Smith & The Saints and 49 Winchester on Aug. 7, The Head and the Heart on Aug. 9, Bonnie Raitt with Mavis Staples on Aug. 14, The Black Crowes on Aug. 16, and Modest Mouse on Aug. 29.
