A baby doomed this major Boise concert in 2019. Still got your tickets? Good news, kid
Canceled and postponed concerts have become frustratingly commonplace in recent years, but one nixed Boise show stands out: Modest Mouse.
It feels like centuries since the indie-rock band pulled out of a Sept. 18, 2019, appearance at the Idaho Botanical Garden’s Outlaw Field — one day before the gig.
Remember, that was prior to COVID.
But here’s good news for people who love bad news. If you held on to your ticket, you’re in luck. The date has been rescheduled. All tickets to that original Modest Mouse show will be honored when the group headlines Outlaw Field at a 7 p.m. show Monday, Aug. 29, 2022. Otherwise, tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, for $42.50 standard general admission, $37.50 Garden member, $94.50 suite at Ticketmaster.com. There’s also a presale for Garden members that starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Modest Mouse’s original plan? That did not go well. As a refresher, here’s the band’s statement from 2019: “Due to the unexpected timing of the birth of a child in the Modest Mouse family, the band have to cancel their appearance in Boise tomorrow. Modest Mouse are truly sorry for the late notice and inconvenience but promise to return soon with a makeup performance. Please stay tuned for an announcement of a new date in 2020, and tickets purchased for tomorrow’s show will be honored for the rescheduled date. In the meantime, refunds can be honored at point of purchase.”
Three years later? The concert is finally happening.
Formed in 1992, Modest Mouse eventually stormed the mainstream with its 2004 album “Good News for People Who Love Bad News.” The catchy single “Float On” was nominated for a Grammy Award and permeated American culture. Other popular songs by Modest Mouse include “Ocean Breathes Salty” — also from the “Good News” album — and “Dashboard” from 2007’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.”
Modest Mouse’s last Boise concert was in 2017, when it headlined at Memorial Stadium. Three years before that, the group performed at Outlaw Field.
Modest Mouse is the sixth concert announced this summer at Outlaw Field. Also on the schedule: Ween on June 28, The Avett Brothers on July 12, Khruangbin on July 13, Rainbow Kitten Surprise on July 15, and The Head and the Heart on Aug. 9.
