Top Valentine’s Day candy in every state. (Really, Idaho? We need to have a conversation)

We need to have a talk, Idaho. Heart to heart. Short and sweet.

CandyStore.com recently updated its “Top Valentine’s Candy By State” map, ranking the most popular choices across America. And frankly? Idaho’s taste buds are about as exciting as Grandpa’s bedroom on his 75th wedding anniversary.

The Gem State’s favorite? Conversation hearts.

No other state west of the Mississippi chose conversation hearts as No. 1 — except California. How romantic. Idaho and California, the happy couple.

Most of our nearby neighbors prefer chocolate, a substance that actually tastes desirable. Wyoming loves chocolate roses. Montana favors chocolate hearts. Colorado and Nevada prefer heart-shaped boxes of chocolates. Utah? Hershey’s Kisses.

Chocolate is an aphrodisiac. Meanwhile, we munch artificial flavors and colors with an expiration date probably 3,000 years from now.

“Hug me,” as one of those ridiculous hearts says.

It’s useless trying to argue with the map. “Our results are solidly grounded in over 14 years of sales data,” CandyStore.com declares.

Here’s the thing, though. Conversation hearts might not be the favorite in the majority of states, but they’re still huge overall.

After slipping in recent years, conversation hearts made “a heroic comeback in 2021,” CandyStore.com says, “finally overtaking their arch-nemesis heart-shaped boxes of chocolates.”

And as I sit here choking down a single Brach’s brand conversation heart — just one! — I will admit: They don’t taste quite as clay-like and mummified as I remember from third grade. Quite.

Still, Idaho, come on. Let’s choose something chocolatey next time.
