A new local sandwich shop just opened in Boise. Here’s what to order. (A Porker?)
Boise has a new sammy destination — and it’s not a national chain.
Locally operated MB Sandwich House debuted April 20 at 4510 W. Overland Road. Located between Ishtar Market & Restaurant and Pizza Hut in Country Club Plaza strip mall, MB plans to be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, owner Marcus Allen said.
The 1,100-square-foot shop serves an array of hot sandwiches, featuring plenty of grilled boneless pork rib and chicken varieties. Cold sandwiches also are an option, he said. There also are wraps, salads, and garlic butter baguette bites — MB’s take on sliders. Cookies are baked daily in the restaurant, he added.
Menu pricing at MB Sandwich House is “pretty simple,” Allen explained by phone. “My sandwiches are $9. My salads are $7.50. I have a side salad for $5. Soup — I have an Italian House Classic — it’s $6.50. My cookies are $1 apiece.”
So what should a new customer order? Gotta love the name of the Porker, not to mention the ingredient list: mayo, ham, bacon and grilled boneless pork rib, toasted on a baguette with lettuce and tomato.
But so far, Allen said, his most popular sandwiches are the Roast Beef and Gravy (roast beef dipped in warm gravy, mayo, swiss cheese toasted on a baguette) and the Chicken Popper (mayo, house-cut chicken, house-made “popper cheese” — jalapeno, cream cheese, cheddar cheese and bacon — toasted on a baguette with lettuce and tomato and served with ranch).
MB’s does takeout. Order ahead at (208) 345-6301. Delivery is now available through DoorDash, with Grubhub and Uber Eats coming, Allen said.
Although MB Sandwich House has been open only for days, it has two Google reviews. “All of them are great, five stars,” Allen said. That’s a good sign for MB’s owner, who is working there while seeking employees.
“I’m getting all positive feedback,” he said.
