Miss going to concerts, Boise? Popular music venue to reopen, ready to rock again

Dying for live music — but not quite ready to risk dying for it at a crowded show?

A popular Garden City venue hopes to be your own “Personal Jesus.”

The Revolution Center, 4983 N. Glenwood St., plans to reopen this month. The first concert is planned for Sept. 26: Depeche Mode tribute band Strangelove will perform. Prior to that on Sept. 19, actor Bruce Campbell will host a Q&A and screening of the classic 1981 horror movie “Evil Dead.” Also on sale now: Celtic-rockers the Young Dubliners on Oct. 17.

The events definitely won’t look like the photo accompanying this article.

The 2,200-capacity Revolution Center plans to restrict attendance to 20% of normal capacity, it said in a press release. Most seating will be at four-person tables, cabaret-style, allowing for social distancing.

“Our main goal is to get Idaho crew workers back to work, to bring in some amazing comedians, musicians, tribute acts, movie previews with Q&A, and more,” the RevCenter said.

Additional shows are expected to be announced as early as next week.

The RevCenter said it plans to follow local and Idaho state government guidelines regarding the coronavirus. That includes temperature checks on entry, sanitation stations and 6 feet of separation in entry and bathroom lines.

The newly announced events are a reboot of a series previously announced in June, and then scrapped after a COVID-19 mandate issued by Central District Health temporarily closed bars.

At the time, RevCenter owner Creston Thornton said that when the venue opened, events would be conducted “in a safe and controlled manner.”

He also hoped Boise fans could let loose — maybe even dance a little? — in the 35,000-square-foot venue.

“I think you can stand up and kind of groove in your controlled area,” Thornton said. “You’re basically buying your seat area.”
