5 Things to Do This Weekend in Boise (besides wear that *@#% mask): Music, movies, food

It feels like it’s been a few months since we’ve had a weekend preview, right?

Welcome to Stage 4 of the Idaho Rebounds coronavirus plan.

Slowly but surely, entertainment opportunities are popping their heads out of the sand.

Here are some fun things to do in Boise and beyond. Just remember: If you go out, use good judgment out there.

1. See live music outdoors ...

McCleary’s Pub on State Street is a classic, old-school Idaho bar. Drink prices are fair. The staff is friendly. Best of all, the fenced back yard is big. Want social distancing? You’ll find it there.

On Saturday, the watering hole at 9155 W. State St. kicks off its outdoor summer music series with Boise rock band Audio Moonshine. Music will go from go 8 to 11:30 p.m., and there’s no cover charge.

2. ... Or indoors

Local musicians finally are getting some love again. Craving indoor live music? Find it here:

The Billy Blues Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at The Barrelhouse, 5181 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City. Then on Saturday, The Blues Groove will take the stage starting at 8:30. There’s no cover for either show — and The Barrelhouse restaurant is family-friendly.

Jazz up your weekend from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday with Ben Burdick and Wade Short at Chandlers Steakhouse, 981 W. Grove St. Or check out The Sidemen, also from 7 to 10 p.m., on Saturday. No cover.

The Rocci Johnson Band is planning to return to action from 9 p.m. to close Saturday at Humpin’ Hannah’s, 621 W. Main St.

3. Go see 2C

Been to Caldwell lately? Indian Creek Plaza keeps getting better by the minute. While you’re there Friday, enjoy free dance performances every hour, on the hour, from TGG Dance Company. Those happen from 6 to 9 p.m. The plaza is located at 120 S. Kimball Ave.

In nearby Nampa, you’ll find live outdoor music starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at Slick’s Bar, 525 E. Karcher Road. The Godfrey Paul Band performs.

4. Have fun with the kids

The Children’s Museum of Idaho, 790 S. Progress Ave., has reopened in Meridian with coronavirus measures. The museum will present “Touch a Truck,” where kids can experience large vehicles from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot in front. It’s free, but you’ll have to pay for any tasty grub from food trucks on site.

5. Hit the movies

Overland Park Cinemas, 7051 W. Overland Road, is showing all $1 movies every day. The multiplex has a special afternoon feature starting this weekend: “Bronco Billy,” the 1980 movie starring Clint Eastwood, which was filmed partially in Idaho.

Here’s the schedule June 12-18: “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (PG-13) at 7:30 p.m.; “Goonies” (PG) at 2:05, 7:15; “Bronco Billy” (PG) at 4:25; “1917” (R) at 9:30; “Jumanji: The Next Level” (PG-13) at 4:15, 8:50; “Harry Potter 2: Chamber of Secrets” (PG) at 1:50; “Doolittle” (PG) at noon; “Trolls World Tour” (PG) at 12:15, 2:20, 7; “Sonic the Hedgehog” (PG) at 11:45 a.m., 5 p.m.

Parma Motor-Vu drive-in theater — located 45 minutes west of Boise — is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This week’s films are “Mighty Oak” and “Sonic the Hedgehog.”
