Coronavirus won’t stop Eagle Fun Days. It will be ‘a bit different’ this year, though.
If your idea of a good time involves a Super Soaker battle or vintage hot rods, Eagle Fun Days won’t be quite as much fun this year.
There won’t be a Wet & Wild Parade. And the Custom Car Show is being moved — to Facebook.
But unlike other Idaho events canceled or postponed because of the coronavirus, the city celebration is still scheduled — sort of.
Eagle Fun Days “is going to be a bit different this year,” according to a press release. “In the past, over 30,000 people ... came to downtown Eagle for the community festival. For 2020, the city of Eagle is taking a split approach by planning some online activities and some modified in-person events.”
The Eagle Fun Days Market will be revamped with the theme of “Eat. Shop. Eagle” on July 11. “In the past, Eagle Fun Days has been a poor sales weekend for Eagle businesses outside of the downtown core,” Mayor Jason Pierce explained. “This year, we are inviting businesses from all corners of Eagle to come downtown and show what they have to offer. I hope this will help businesses that have taken some financial hits in recent months.”
Eagle Fun Days’ annual fireworks display will be retooled as a “Drive-In Fireworks Show” on July 10 at Eagle Island State Park. Details are forthcoming.
Other parts of Eagle Fun Days, such as the Custom Car Show, will be online experiences. “Instead of the Wet and Wild Parade, the city will be hosting two virtual events,” according to the release, “the #FunDaysFillUp Challenge and the Backyard Float Competition. The Eagle Fun Day Run will be a virtual race this year. That means race participants can run a 5k or 10k on their own time around their home.”
