New Mediterranean restaurant opens in Boise. Here’s what the owner recommends
Want menu recommendations at Boise’s newest restaurant? Shawn Tierney is your gyro — er, hero.
As the Idaho franchise owner of Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe, he knows the kitchen well. In 2018, he opened the Gem State’s first Taziki’s in Eagle.
His second Treasure Valley store debuted Tuesday, March 3, at 507 W. Idaho St. in downtown Boise. A ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m. preceded the grand opening at 11 a.m.
Taziki’s emphasizes made-from-scratch, health-conscious food. Here are a few menu suggestions.
▪ The Grilled Lamb Gyro ($9.89), which comes with chips and a side, is the most popular item. “We butcher our meats in-house and grill everything fresh to order,” Tierney said in an email. “We do not use a ‘spit roaster’ or ‘cone’ as most people may be accustomed to with gyros. We make our signature Taziki sauce from scratch with 100-percent Greek yogurt.”
▪ The Chicken Kebab Feast ($10.19) is “a real value,” Tierney said. It comes with Taziki sauce, a Greek salad and your choice of Roasted New Potatoes or Basmati Rice.
▪ Deli sandwiches, served with chips and a side, are a solid lunch choice. Tierney recommends the Spicy Pimento Cheese Sandwich ($7.99), which he described as “a nod to our Southern roots.”
Wait — Southern roots?
Yep. Taziki’s is based in Alabama. The new Boise store will be its 94th location nationally.
