Words & Deeds

Van Halen to open at KISS concert in Boise? No. But it’ll be the next best thing.

Rock band KISS will wave goodbye to Idaho next year, unleashing its End of the Road World Tour upon ExtraMile Arena on Sept. 22.

But it might not be the evening’s only farewell.

David Lee Roth — the original vocalist for Van Halen — will be the tour’s special guest, it was announced today. It seems plausible that this could be Roth’s final Boise show, too.

Next month, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is set to do a residency at the House of Blues in Las Vegas — where he will perform a changing set of “26 instantly recognizable songs, including ‘Jump,’ ‘Panama,’ and ‘California Girls,’ “ according to a press release.

But it’s looking less likely that a rumored Van Halen reunion tour will materialize anytime soon — if ever. Nor is it likely that any such tour would stop in a secondary market such as Boise. Earlier this year, Roth said he thought Van Halen was “finished.” And guitarist Edward Van Halen reportedly has been battling health issues.

If you’re a Van Halen fan, seeing 65-year-old Diamond Dave attempting high-kicks while opening for KISS suddenly sounds pretty good. Even if Roth’s vocals probably will sound pretty bad.

(Hey, he’s always been a showman more than a singer.)

There are still tickets available at Ticketmaster, so — might as well jump?
