Fast, healthy AND tasty? Get ‘bowled’ over at Colorado chain new to Boise

If your arteries clog at the thought of another chain restaurant opening in Boise, take heart.

You can leave the defibrillator home when you visit Rush Bowls.

The new fast-casual shop, which debuted Nov. 5 at 1774 W. State St., sells health-conscious, flavorful food. Founded in Boulder, Colorado, the concept focuses on grab-and-go dining. You order at the counter. Seating is limited.

“Rush Bowls offers meals crafted from all-natural fruit, topped with organic granola and honey, and blended with protein, vitamins and other nutritious ingredients that taste delicious while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” the company says. “Customers can choose from over 40 signature bowls or all-natural smoothies made with fruit and vegetable bases, including acai, kale and avocado.”

The prices won’t send diners into cardiac arrest. Bowls cost $7.99, smoothies are $6.99, and toppings go for $1. Grab a Bow Wow Bowl for your canine pal for $2.99.

The current featured bowl is a Pumpkin Spice: Pumpkin, banana, graham cracker, cinnamon, nutmeg, milk choice and frozen yogurt (optional). It’s topped with organic granola and honey.

Rush Bowls uses no artificial sweeteners, artificial additives, artificial preservatives or MSG. Have specific dietary requests? Vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free options are available.

The locally owned franchise offers a few homey touches, too. Jam is made in-house. The peanut butter is hand-grinded.

You will find splurges on the menu. Toppings like chocolate chips and graham crackers should lure self-indulgent diners to the 1,400-square-foot restaurant.

Need a boost? Supercharge your bowl with a $1 supplement such as “Energy” or “Brain Wave.” (Opt for “Hangover” if you spent too much time enjoying pints at nearby Cloud 9 Brewery the night before.)

The Boise store is Rush Bowls’ first expansion into Idaho. Founded in 2004, the company operates 24 outlets in 14 states. More than 120 potential locations are being developed, including two more in the Treasure Valley.
