After six successful years in Downtown Boise, it might seem plausible that Treefort Music Fest has reached its ceiling.
Or, perhaps in 2018, Treefort will tear the roof off the sucker.
Funk royalty George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will supercharge the indie festival, which announced its first wave of acts today. The head-spinning lineup March 21-25 is loaded with emerging artists, but also dotted with names familiar to mainstream music fans.
Festivalgoers will groove to jazzy jam-band Galactic, soul group The Suffers and singer Cindy Wilson of B-52’s fame. Headbangers will “Party Hard” to the euphoric anthems of Andrew W.K. and channel their punk-rock energy with critically acclaimed Titus Andronicus.

Indie aficionados will sway dramatically to Zola Jesus, absorb the rhymes of Oddisee & Good Compny and rock out to hometown favorites Built To Spill. There’s even an appearance by Treepeople, the Seattle- and Boise-based alt-rock outfit that helped spawn Built To Spill.
Here’s the entire first round — and remember, this is only the beginning. Treefort, which featured more than 400 acts in 2017, will announce second and third waves of bands in January and February.
