Redding, California-based Black Bear Diner just doubled its Boise presence.

The comfort-food franchise chain opened a new restaurant Nov. 13 at 7552 W. State St. It’s in the North Pointe development across from Wal-Mart. That makes two Black Bear Diners in Boise; the other has operated since 2012 at 1731 S. Entertainment Ave., near the Boise Spectrum.

Judging from the design of the menu — the Black Bear Gazette, made to look like a newspaper dishing up local news from 1955 — this is a solid destination for taking Grandpa out. Black Bear Diner serves “good old-fashioned family food.”

The lodge-themed diner offers breakfast all day. Black Bear Diner also dishes up lunch and dinner staples ranging from burgers to fish tacos, basket combos to salads, plus belly fillers such as chicken pot pie, housemade meatloaf and slow-cooked pot roast.
