Boise musicians pay tribute to Leonard Cohen at free concert

“Poetry is just the evidence of life,” the late Leonard Cohen said. “If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.” Most music fans don’t have such beautiful, eloquent words to express all the loss we felt in 2016, from Bowie to Prince, from Glenn Frey to Sharon Jones. But Boise musicians will express appreciation for Cohen, a beloved singer-songwriter, in the best way they know: by performing Cohen’s songs. The evening, hosted by 94.9 The River’s Tim Johnstone, is called “We’re His Fans: A Celebration of Leonard Cohen.” Scheduled to participate: a.k.a. Belle, Belinda Bowler, SFM-Steve Fulton Music, Speedy Gray (Like A Rocket), Harvey Krishna, Kayleigh Jack, Andy Lawless, Leta Neustaedter, Thomas Paul, Sleepy Seahorse, Curtis Stigers and Thistledown.

6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, Record Exchange, 1105 W. Idaho St., Boise. Free. Wristbands guaranteeing admission are available in advance at the store.
