Costco Makes First Change to Iconic Hot Dog Combo in 40 Years
For decades, Costco's beloved $1.50 hot dog and soda combo has remained virtually untouched, earning a cult following among loyal shoppers who value the warehouse giant for its budget-friendly grocery and household options.
But recently, the membership-only retailer made a notable change to the offering-a first in more than 40 years.
Fans don't have to worry, as the price of the combo meal remains unaffected, which has long been seen as a symbol of Costco's commitment to value.
The hot dog itself, which has been a food court staple since the 1980s thanks to co-founder Jim Sinegal, will not be impacted. Instead, the change focuses on the drink portion of the combo, which longtime customers may immediately notice.
While the combo has typically been offered with your choice of soda, it will now come with the option of purchasing a combo with a bottle of water.
In June 2025, it was announced that the warehouse would be phasing out its partnership with Pepsi to begin offering Coca-Cola products in its food courts.
The change was spotted by Costco Aisles, revealing that customers who are more health-conscious or not fans of soda can now choose a 16.9-ounce bottle of Kirkland Signature water to wash down their beef frank.
"I love that Costco is now also offering the hot dog combo with water!" the post declared, though reactions to the change have been pretty mixed.
"There's a water button on the fountain drinks. So hmmmm," one wrote, as another emphasized environmental concern, "Why use more plastic when water is available in the soda dispenser?"
Someone else flagged a change, writing, "This doesn't make sense. I noticed they removed the bottled water vending machine that was 25¢ so shouldn't it be $1.25? Just sayin' 🤷🏼♀️."
Another countered, "I rather get the water tbh," as many prefer the taste of bottled water over fountain water.
One thing remains clear, however: the new combo offering allows customers to choose the option that works best for them, while remaining one of the most affordable food deals around.
