Idaho coronavirus fears claim another casualty: a film festival featuring Amy Poehler
Due to the rapidly escalating concern over the new coronavirus, the Sun Valley Film Festival announced on Thursday that it is canceling this year’s event, scheduled for next week.
“With over $5 million of economic impact to the community, this was not a decision that was made lightly, but ultimately the protection of public health and safety of the community is paramount,” organizers said in a press release.
The festival, set to take place March 18-22, will return in 2021, according to the release. Organizers said they are working to create next steps for supporters, partners, and those holding passes and tickets for 2020.
“We are actively supporting the global and local effort to combat this pandemic by canceling this year’s festival. The health and safety of our community and all of our participants is our top priority and we know this is the right and responsible decision. We look forward to seeing you all next year for our 10th anniversary in 2021,” Executive Director Teddy Grennan said in the release.
Among the guests expected to attend the 2020 event were Amy Poehler, Winston Duke and Eliza Hittman.
There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Idaho, but more and more events are being shuttered.
