Mother ‘broke down’ when she found out why her 3-year-old was standing on a toilet

Stacey Feeley thought her 3-year-old daughter was just being silly when she saw her standing on a toilet.

She took out her phone and snapped a picture to send to her husband, “to show what our mischievous little three-year-old was up to.”

But Feeley said she “broke down” when she found out the real reason the little girl was standing on the toilet bowl.

“She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom,” Feeley wrote in a Facebook post. “At that moment all innocense (sic) of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone.”

The Michigan woman used the picture to call on politicians to enact stricter gun control. Multiple gun control measures all failed in the Senate on Monday by close votes.

“This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great grand children and future generations to come. They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats,” Feeley wrote. “I do not know what will be harder for them? Trying to remain quiet for an extended amount of time or trying to keep their balance without letting a foot slip below the stall door?”

The Facebook post has been shared more than 15,000 times, with many voicing support for the mother’s position. But others insisted lockdown drills were not different from the drills earlier generations endured.

“I had to hide under my desk as a child at school, there is no difference, and I didn’t loose (sic) my innoscence (sic), she won’t either,” one commenter wrote on the post. “It’s a fact of life, back then it was for possible bombings, tornadoes, etc.”
