SUV ‘engulfed in flames’ after rollover on Idaho 55; driver hospitalized

A woman was hospitalized after her SUV started on fire while driving an Idaho highway Sunday afternoon.

A 32-year-old woman from Renton, Washington, was driving south at 3:35 p.m. on Idaho 55 when her SUV left the roadway north of Bendview Court in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho State Police said in a news release. Police said the vehicle “rolled before becoming engulfed in flames.”

An air ambulance transported the driver to a local hospital, according to the release.

All lanes were blocked to traffic for nearly three hours following the accident.

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Horseshoe Bend EMS, Acute Rescue and Life Flight assisted Idaho State Police at the crash scene. Idaho State Police is investigating.
