Grand jury indicts suspects in Lake Lowell murder
Indictments against the four Nampa men suspected of robbing Steven Nelson and beating him to death near Lake Lowell April 29 were unsealed Thursday, according to court records.
Under the indictments, Kelly Schneider, 22, Jayson Woods, 28, Daniel Henkel, 23 and Kevin Tracy, 21, are now charged with felony conspiracy to commit robbery on top of their existing charges of first-degree murder and robbery.
The four men are accused of luring Nelson, 49, out to Lake Lowell under the pretense of a sexual rendevous, beating him fatally and stealing his vehicle and other possessions.
With a grand jury having reviewed the case, the indictments now mean the four won’t have preliminary hearings — a step where prosecutors must prove to a judge that a case merits a full trial — and they’ll next be arraigned in Canyon County 3rd District Court.
Online court records say Woods will be arraigned Monday, Henkel and Tracy on Tuesday and Schneider June 3.
