Capt. Frank Wyant, a 24-year veteran of the Caldwell Police Department, has been selected to replace Chris Allgood as the city's chief of police, Mayor Garret Nancolas announced Wednesday.
"I have full confidence in Capt. Wyant," Nancolas said in a news release. "He is a leader in our community and has the skills and experience to do a great job as chief."
When Allgood announced his retirement in July, he told the Statesman he considered Wyant as "the top of the list" for a successor. The selection committee chose Wyant from a field of 12 applicants, and Nancolas said he will recommend the City Council appoint Wyant chief at the council's Dec. 7 meeting. If confirmed, Wyant will become chief Jan. 1.
Allgood was elected to the City Council in November and will take office in January.
Never miss a local story.
"It's an absolute honor to have started my career at the bottom here and have the community pick me to lead the department," Wyant said. When Wyant joined the CPD, he told the Statesman, Allgood was his field training officer.
