Section of Greenbelt closed as part of Broadway Bridge project

The Greenbelt on the south side of the Boise River is now fully closed from west of Broadway Avenue to the Parkcenter Bridge, the Idaho Transportation Department announced Monday.

The section will remain closed to all Greenbelt users through the summer, ITD reports.

To cross the Boise River, pedestrians and cyclists canl use the Bay Brook Bridge and Friendship Bridge. Signs will be placed along the Greenbelt to help guide and notify users of adjustments to the detour route around the Broadway Bridge construction zone.

The closure was planned to create a larger work zone for upcoming construction activities and keep the project on schedule, ITD reports.

The Broadway Bridge is being rebuilt because the existing structure is approximately 60 years old and does not meet today’s standards, the agency said. The project also includes making roadway improvements to Broadway Avenue from University Drive to Front Street and enhancing connectivity to the Greenbelt.

Knife River Corp. is the contractor for the project, which is expected to be complete late this year.
