A child died and multiple people were injured as a result of a vehicle fire in Boise, according to a news release and Boise Fire Department spokesperson Haley Williams.

Boise police officers and firefighters responded at around 11:15 to an incident near West Irving and North Manville streets on the Bench, and fire crews found a truck “fully engulfed in flames,” Williams said.

Two adults, a mother and father, were outside the car when the fire started, and they were able to rescue a 10-month-old and a 4-year-old from the car, a news release said. Those four were taken to a hospital, but a 2-year-old girl in the backseat died.

“I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family who tragically lost their child in this devastating vehicle fire. Our thoughts are with you in this incredibly difficult time. We also send our strength and well wishes to the family members who are recovering in the hospital. Please know that you are in our hearts, and we are here to support you,” Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said in the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the release said, but it appears to be accidental.
