Hating your job? It could be because it’s July

Do you hate your job more in the summer? Do you love it more in the fall?

If so, you’re not alone. More people in the U.S. tend to hate their jobs in July, while more love their jobs in October, according to a new study.

The study by Monster and Brandwatch analyzed about 2 million tweets worldwide to provide insight on job-loving and job-hating trends. It compared the amount of tweets complaining about employment to those praising it.

The country with the highest ratio of job love was the Philippines, with a 30-1 ratio. The lowest were Ireland and Ecuador, with a 3-1 ratio. The U.S. came close to that low though, with a 4-1 ratio, tying with Canada.

Most states on the higher job-love end of the ratio are in the West, while the job-hate states tend to be concentrated on the East Coast.

The state with the most job hate was Michigan, and states such as Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Louisiana, Maryland and Delaware make consistent appearances on the higher job-hate end. Careers on the job-hate spectrum tended to be in manual labor, welding and work safety.

Idaho nabbed the No. 1 job-love spot this year, from Hawaii last year. The study found that the top job-love states, which also included Montana, North Dakota, Vermont, Utah, Maine and Washington, tended to have lower populations of people. Jobs with the most love tended to be in the technology, nursing and customer support careers, which commonly have more flexible schedule arrangements.

People also tend to love their job the most on Thursday, while hating it the most on Sunday.

Women tended to tweet more than men on both the love and hate spectrum. And people who hated their jobs tended to complain about their coworkers more, while those who loved it called out great members of their team. In a 2015 Monster poll, 95 percent of respondents said that friendly, polite coworkers were important to their overall happiness at work.

So if you’re unhappy at work in the United States you should pack your bags, move to Idaho, get a tech job, take vacations in July and make sure you like the people you’ll be working with.
