Varsity Extra athletes of the week (March 28-April 2)

BASEBALL

Tristan King, Timberline: The Wolves swept Borah in a 5A Southern Idaho Conference showdown, winning a pair of five-inning games 17-3 and 18-0. King, a senior, went 5-for-8 in the series with two home runs, one double and eight RBIs. He also pitched one inning of one-hit relief.

SOFTBALL

Megan Browne, Mountain View: The Mavericks rolled off three straight shutouts in 5A Southern Idaho Conference play, defeating Vallivue, Boise and Columbia. Browne pitched 16 total innings, earning two wins with a 0.00 ERA, 30 strikeouts and four walks. Browne also batted over .500 with two home runs, one double, five runs scored and five RBIs.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Sara Christianson, Borah: The senior swept the 1,600 meters and 3,200 at the Boise Relays at Dona Larsen Park. Christianson’s winning times of 4 minutes, 57.31 seconds in the 1,600 and 11:02.10 in the 3,200 are tops in the state this season, according to athletic.net.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Cory Mullanix, Centennial: The senior showcased his speed at the Boise Relays at Dona Larsen Park. Mullanix won the 100 meters and 200 in state-leading times of 10.87 seconds in the 100 and 22.00 in the 200. He is the defending 5A state champion in the 100.

GIRLS TENNIS

Ellie Gamble, Centennial: The senior had a strong week with a pair of victories against Capital and Columbia. Gamble defeated Capital’s Sidney Angstman 6-0, 6-0, and then topped Columbia’s Bronte Preece 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

BOYS TENNIS

Adam Tzeng, Eagle: The sophomore collected three consecutive wins last week to remain unbeaten, defeating Borah’s Thomas Reisig (6-2, 6-0), Bishop Kelly’s Elliot Klein (6-2, 6-2) and Rocky Mountain’s Ryan Gould (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles.

GIRLS GOLF

Annika Thomas, Mountain View: Thomas won the 16-team Nampa Invitational at Centennial Golf Course with a round of 79. She finished two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Jessica Lyter of Emmett.

BOYS GOLF

Thomas Burchfield, Timberline: The senior claimed medalist honors at the 15-team Nampa Invitational at Centennial Golf Course. Burchfield carded a round of 73 to finish one stroke ahead of Connor Johnstone of Vallivue.
