Varsity Extra athletes of the week (March 7-12)

BASEBALL

Jared Brown, Mountain View: The Mavericks picked up a 10-0 nonconference win in six innings over Skyview. Brown was strong at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Jordan Miller, Meridian: The Warriors opened the season with a no-hit shutout of Skyview. Miller pitched six innings without allowing a hit while walking two and striking out nine. Meridian won 8-0.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Tristin Bowens, Capital: The junior won three events in her first meet of the season, sweeping the 100 meters (12.83 seconds), 200 meters (27.1, hand time) and long jump (16 feet, 5.5 inches), while helping the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay team take second.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Michael Slagowski, Rocky Mountain: The senior finished the indoor season with a victory in the 800 meters at the New Balance Nationals Indoor in New York. Slagowski, a Penn State signee, won the race in 1 minute, 50.29 seconds.
