GIRLS BASKETBALL

Destiny Slocum, Mountain View: The defending 5A state champions were invited to play in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz. Over the final two days of the tournament, the Mavericks earned a 78-69 win over Cardondelet (Calif.) as Slocum contributed 27 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and seven steals. Mountain View then lost 59-56 to Sacred Heart (Ky.) with the Maryland signee adding 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Slocum was named to the all-tournament team, totaling 86 points, 33 rebounds and 24 assists in four games.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Rylan Bergersen, Borah: The Lions picked up a 74-43 win over Timberline in a 5A Southern Idaho Conference road game last week. Bergersen, a senior guard and reigning 5A All-Idaho first-team selection, led all scorers with 26 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists. Bergersen was 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
