FOOTBALL

Tucker Rovig, Mountain View: The junior quarterback led the Mavericks into the 5A state semifinals for the second year in a row with a 42-14 victory against Capital. The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder completed 10-of-26 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for 41 yards and another score. Top-ranked and unbeaten Mountain View plays Madison in the state semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

Jake Roper, Rocky Mountain: The senior running back took over for the Grizzlies in a 65-20 rout of Lewiston in the 5A state quarterfinals. Roper rushed for 242 yards and three first-half touchdowns on 17 carries, bringing his season rushing total to 1,001 yards despite missing three games with a knee injury. He averaged 14.2 yards per carry against the Bengals. Rocky Mountain hosts Highland in the state semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Brighton Stadium.
