Mason Farnsworth, Emmett: The senior running back got the 3A Huskies off to a strong start in a 45-28 victory over 4A Kuna. Farnsworth ran for 295 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries — an average of 13.4 yards per touch.
Hannah Belveal, Rocky Mountain: The Grizzlies opened the season with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-10, 20-25, 15-11 victory against Boise. Belveal, a 6-foot sophomore outside hitter, led Rocky Mountain with 18 kills, eight digs and three aces.
Qarli Stone, Eagle: The Mustangs kicked off the 2015 season with a nonconference, 5-1 win over 4A Skyview. Stone, a senior forward who is verbally committed to Troy, scored four of Eagle’s five goals.
Skyler Munroe, Timberline: The defending 5A state champions began their title defense with two victories last week. Munroe, a junior forward, scored one goal in a 5-0 win against Kuna, and he tallied three goals and three assists in a 9-0 victory over Nampa.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Kari Taylor, Capital: The junior ran to a victory at the 2015 Bandanna Jimmy Driscoll Classic on Saturday at Bishop Kelly High. Taylor won the race in 18 minutes, 32.60 seconds, which ranks No. 1 in the state this season, according to athletic.net.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Noah Horsburgh, Mountain View: The senior had a standout race for the defending 5A state team champions by winning the Bandanna Jimmy Driscoll Classic on Saturday at Bishop Kelly High. Horsburgh won the race in 15 minutes, 51 seconds, tops in the state this season, according to athletic.net.
