Destiny Slocum, Mountain View: The Mavericks improved to 6-0 with two victories in 5A Southern Idaho Conference action. Mountain View defeated Eagle 61-41 as Slocum scored a game-high 30 points with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. In a 76-50 victory against Meridian, the junior point guard who is verbally committed to Washington had 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting, four steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Jarek Schetzle, Mountain Home: The Tigers opened the season with three wins against nonconference opponents. Mountain Home rolled Columbia 87-44 as Schetzle contributed a double-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. The 6-foot-10 senior post had his biggest game of the week and a second straight double-double of 24 points, 13 rebounds, one blocked shot, one steal and one assist in a 55-26 win over Jerome. The Tigers closed out the week with a 73-68 overtime win against Nampa as Schetzle had 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
Jake Lords, Kuna: The defending state champion Kavemen kicked off the season with a runner-up finish at the Buck's Bags Duals at Capital High. Lords, a senior, went undefeated at 138 pounds, winning matches against Capital, Mountain View, Rocky Mountain, Bishop Kelly, Boise and Bonneville. Kuna coach Pat Owens says Lords has a 4.0 GPA and is being recruited by schools such as Boise State and Columbia.
