Varsity Extra athletes of the week: Jan. 9-14

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ami Ti’a, Centennial: The Patriots earned a key 5A Southern Idaho Conference win by beating two-time defending state champion Mountain View 56-52 last week. Ti’a, a sophomore guard, scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) shooting from the field with five rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Ethan Christianson, Ambrose: The defending 1A Division I state champions notched two wins in Western Idaho Conference play, defeating Horseshoe Bend 80-54 and Riverstone International 58-43. Christianson, a junior guard, had 33 points, six assists and five rebounds against the Mustangs. He then had 18 points, seven steals and six rebounds against the Otters.

WRESTLING

Kekana Fouret, Columbia: The sophomore went unbeaten (7-0) last week at 132 pounds in the Wildcats’ trip to northern Idaho. In the River City Duals, where Columbia finished second to defending 5A state champion Post Falls, Fouret won all five of his matches, highlighted by a 1-0 decision over Post Falls’ Mathias De La Rosa in the championship dual.
