Capital, Eagle face off in Saturday football game

Eagle and Capital have qualified for the state playoffs the past seven seasons, creating a regular-season rivalry with a postseason feel.

Both teams were picked to finish second in their respective pods in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference preseason coaches’ poll.

In their past six meetings, Eagle has won five games, including a 24-23 win at Thunder Stadium last fall.

Four of their most recent games have been decided by three points or less.

Capital opened the season with a 48-20 loss at Madison. The game was tied 20-20 with 8:45 left in the third quarter before the Bobcats scored 28 unanswered points.

Eagle dominated in its first game of the season, handing Idaho Falls a 68-0 loss at Ravsten Stadium. Senior running back Bucky Schrader rushed for 127 yards and five TDs — all in the first half.
