The college football season kicked off last weekend with one Treasure Valley product — Stanford defensive end and Columbia High grad Eric Cotton — starting for one of the premier programs in the nation.
The season kicks into high gear this weekend with a host more slated for big roles at the FBS level.
USC linebacker Porter Gustin (Emmett) is rumored as a potential first-round draft pick in the NFL Draft. Oregon junior Khalil Oliver (Rocky Mountain) will start at safety as the Ducks start the season against Southern Utah. Cal redshirt freshman Valentino Daltoso (Boise) is slated to start at right guard against North Carolina.
And Boise State will start four local products — left guard Garrett Larson (Fruitland), center Mason Hampton (Meridian), weakside linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (Salmon River) and boundary safety Kekoa Nawahine (Rocky Mountain) — as the Broncos host Troy on Saturday.
Vander Esch is a team captain, and Hampton is featured on a banner alongside Albertsons Stadium.
All told, 59 former Idaho high school football players dot FBS rosters around the West. See the full list below.
