Pitcher Sam Malinowski popped up the Lewis-Clark Twins’ clean-up hitter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to clinch a 5-4 victory for the Boise Capitals (Capital High) in the Double-A American Legion baseball state championship game Saturday.
It marks the first AA Legion title in program history.
The Capitals edged Lewis-Clark 8-4 earlier in the day to force the winner-take-all game. The state title guarantees the Capitals a berth in the Northwest Regional from Aug. 5-9 in Cheyenne, Wyo., with champions from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Wyoming and Montana.
