The FC Nova Nationals U-19 girls soccer team opened the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships with a scoreless draw Tuesday against the Beadling SC Thunder of Pittsburgh.
The Nova Nationals, a combined team of players from Meridian’s FC Nova and the Boise Nationals clubs, continue group play at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla., against Tampa Bay United Premier. The team is the second from Idaho to qualify for the national tournament and the first to reach nationals as a regional champion.
The draw keeps Nova Nationals in the hunt for a berth into Saturday’s national championship. The top two teams in the four-team group advance to the finals.
