Eagle High golfer qualifies for national championship

Josh Gliege won the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier on Tuesday at Ridgecrest Golf Course, earning a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to be played at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C., from July 20-25. This is the third time the Texas A&M commit and reigning individual 5A state champion has qualified for the event. Gliege shot a 73 in the first round, then stunned the field with an 8-under 64 in the afternoon to win by two strokes over Conner Johnstone (139) of Caldwell, who will be the first alternate.

In the girls qualifier, American Falls’ Payton Fehringer qualified with a 73. Timberline High’s Katie Cudworth (75) and Boise High’s Brooke Williams (79) will be the alternates for the national event to be held at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
