The US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships begin Monday at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise, bringing nearly 250 teams, more than 4,500 athletes and an estimated 15,000 spectators to the Treasure Valley for seven days of soccer.
Pool play runs Monday through Wednesday for boys and girls teams in the under-12 through under-19 age groups. Following a rest day Thursday, quarterfinal matches kick off Friday, semifinals are Saturday and champions are crowned Sunday.
Championship winners, with the exception of U-12, advance to the 2015 US Youth Soccer National Championships on July 21-26 at Mohawk Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
The Far West Regional, also known as Region IV, includes teams from Idaho, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Only one Idaho squad — the Boise Nationals U15 girls in 2013 — has advanced to nationals, and no Idaho teams has ever won a regional title.
